Stacked was founded with a simple mission: make Bitcoin accessible to every New Zealander. We believe Bitcoin represents the future of money, and everyone deserves easy, secure access to it.

Our Story

What started as a small team of Bitcoin enthusiasts has grown into New Zealand's leading Bitcoin-only exchange. We've processed millions of dollars in transactions and helped thousands of Kiwis start their Bitcoin journey.

Why Bitcoin Only?

We focus exclusively on Bitcoin because we believe it's the most important monetary innovation of our time. By specializing, we can offer:

  • Lower fees than multi-coin exchanges
  • Deeper liquidity for better prices
  • Expert knowledge and support
  • Lightning Network integration for instant payments
"Bitcoin is not just an investment. It's a fundamental shift in how we think about money, savings, and financial freedom."

Our Values

Everything we do is guided by our core values: security first, transparency always, and customer obsession. We're building for the long term, just like Bitcoin itself.

Lightning Network Now Live on Stacked

We're thrilled to announce that the Lightning Network is now fully integrated into the Stacked platform. This is a major milestone in our mission to make Bitcoin the most practical money for everyday use.

What is the Lightning Network?

The Lightning Network is a "layer 2" payment protocol built on top of Bitcoin. It enables instant, low-cost transactions by creating payment channels between users. Think of it as the difference between settling every transaction through your bank versus running a tab at your local cafe.

Benefits for Stacked Users

  • Instant transactions: No more waiting for block confirmations
  • Near-zero fees: Send any amount for a fraction of a cent
  • Better privacy: Lightning transactions don't appear on the main blockchain
  • Micropayments: Send tiny amounts that would be impractical on-chain

How to Get Started

Getting started with Lightning on Stacked is simple:

  1. Update your Stacked app to the latest version
  2. Navigate to the "Receive" screen
  3. Select "Lightning" to generate a Lightning invoice
  4. Share the invoice or QR code with the sender
"Lightning Network integration brings us one step closer to making Bitcoin practical for everyday transactions. We're excited to see how our users will use this technology."

We'll be rolling out additional Lightning features over the coming weeks, including the ability to pay Lightning invoices directly from your Stacked wallet. Stay tuned!

How to verify my identity

Identity verification is required to buy, sell, and withdraw Bitcoin on Stacked. This process helps us comply with New Zealand's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and keeps our platform safe for all users.

What you'll need

Before starting the verification process, make sure you have:

  • A valid New Zealand driver's licence or passport
  • A smartphone or computer with a camera
  • Good lighting for taking photos

Step-by-step guide

1. Start verification

Log into your Stacked account and navigate to Settings → Identity Verification. Click "Start Verification" to begin.

2. Enter your details

Fill in your personal information exactly as it appears on your ID document. This includes your full legal name, date of birth, and address.

3. Upload your ID

Take a clear photo of the front of your ID document. Make sure all four corners are visible and the text is readable. If using a passport, photograph the main information page.

4. Take a selfie

Take a photo of yourself holding your ID next to your face. This helps us confirm that you're the person on the document.

5. Wait for approval

Our team reviews verification requests within 24 hours during business days. You'll receive an email once your verification is complete.

Troubleshooting

If your verification is rejected, you may need to:

  • Retake photos in better lighting
  • Ensure your ID hasn't expired
  • Make sure all information matches exactly
Tip: Use natural lighting and avoid glare on your ID when taking photos. This significantly improves approval rates.
